The Western KI Caravan Park had so much wildlife, which made sense considering it had an adjoining wildlife reserve. There were koalas in the trees which was cool for the kids to see, as you don’t normally see them.
The nearby Flinders Chase National Park was beautiful, but you could still see the devastation that the 2020 bushfires had made on this place. They were the largest fires the island had ever experienced and the impact on the area was huge. The National Park was not nearly what it used to be, and will take a lot of work to get back – this is perhaps why it felt really great to be able to support the local area.
The caravan park itself was comfortable. We stayed a few nights as it was the only accommodation on the western side of the island. There was power and water, although the water smelt a bit different and didn’t taste fabulous. There was a shortage of water on the island though, so this was no big surprise.
The toilets were clean in the morning, but not very pleasant by the afternoon. They were quite dated too.
The main draw card of the caravan park was the proximity to so many great spots. We used it as a base to explore Flinders Chase National Park, go up to Cape Borda, and explore the entire western side of the island. If you visit the National Park, be sure to check out the Remarkable Rocks – you can see our visit to this spot here.
We would stay again.
