Location: Weipa, QLD
The Weipa Caravan Park and Camping Ground is right on the beach in Weipa, the biggest town on the Cape in Queensland. It’s a convenient spot to stock up on food and alcohol before continuing north, and is only a five minute walk from the local Woolworths.
A picturesque spot offering up epic sunsets over the sea, the campground boasts a range of accommodation options including a lodge, villas, cabins and both powered and unpowered camp sites.
The campground is located at Lot 7024 on Kerr Point Drive in Weipa on the west coast of Cape York, approximately 800km north-west of Cairns.

Weipa is the biggest town on the Cape, so this was a good spot to stock up on food and alcohol before continuing north. The Weipa Caravan Park and Camping Ground was only a five minute walk from Woolworths, which was very handy.
The facilities at the campsite were awesome (almost as amazing as the sunsets!). The kids’ favourite part was the tropical swimming pool and the playground which were right on the water’s edge.
There were washing machine facilities (that were warmly welcomed by us!), and food was available some nights at the campground. If you opt for an unpowered site, you can score a spot at the beach front. These were all booked when we stayed, but we did check out some of the off road tracks around Weipa and ended up with whole beaches to ourselves!
We highly recommend the seafood shop situated in a shed next to one of the local houses. We got coral trout, calamari, and king prawns then cooked up a feast – it was amazing!
We stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it.
