Towns River Campground offers two kinds of camping options – official campsites under tree coverage that provide convenient access to the facilities, or the ability to drive down to the hard rock river banks that could easily fit up to eight caravans.
The campground is located in Limmen National Park, in the Gulf of Carpentaria in Australia’s Northern Territory. It is approximately 305 km southeast of Katherine and 76 km northwest of Borroloola. Towns River is located at the northern area of Limmen National Park.

Towns River Campground was a great, cheap campsite. There was the option of using the official campsites under tree coverage that provided convenient access to the facilities, or to drive down to the river banks which were hard rock and could easily fit up to eight caravans – we picked the latter.
These spots on the river were hot and offered no shade cover, but allowed us easy access to the boat ramp. It was a nice spot to fish either off the banks or from the boat. We saw plenty of bait fish and big Barramundi in the water but had no luck catching anything. River camping also provided us with the a beautiful sunrise over the river.
Be crocodile aware here and don’t be tempted to swim in the water.
Towns River Campground was the perfect spot for an overnight stay.
