Swimcart Beach Campground Review
Location: Binalong Bay, TAS
Location: Binalong Bay, TAS
Swimcart Beach Campground is a beautiful beachfront campsite that’s part of the Bay of Fires Conservation Area, and the best bit? It’s free! Yep, if you can handle no power, water or showers (there are a couple of long-drop toilets), then this beautiful beachfront campsite is yours for no cost.
The campsite is located at Swimcart Beach Road in Binalong Bay, Tasmania. It can be a windy spot to camp because it’s right on the beach, but the bright white sand on your doorstep easily compensates for this. Travellers are allowed to camp at Swimcart Beach Campground for a maximum of 28 days.

Swimcart Beach Campground was beautiful! All camping sites were right on the beachfront, which was three parts stunning and one part very windy. The beach was absolutely gorgeous and had the nicest whitest sand we’d ever seen, but we’d be lying if we said there was no drawback to this spectacular positioning.
There was no power, water or showers, but two long-drop toilets were available to service the whole area. This was all fine considering the campsite was free, and allowed us to literally walk straight down onto the sand from our site.
The campground was suitable for all campers, from tents to big rigs, however we’d recommend campers with big rigs check out the location before entering as some turning areas were quite tight.
There were some fantastic spots to check out nearby, from the beautiful beaches to the Bay of Fires and Binalong Bay.
I have just left after a planned 3 night stop, after only staying 1 night. I was shocked at the conditions and the area smelt like a urinal. Cramped camping and stuck 2 meters from the main access road. Overrated and over used, unfortunately to the detriment of the area. The beach was lovely although really windy and unfortunately the uncontrolled lighting of previous camp fires has blacked the sand at the camp sites to the point it stains everything black that touches it. Very disappointed and underwhelmed. If I had known prior to arriving that it would be packed out and in such poor condition, I would have headed to a different part of the Bay of Fires. Hopefully the Parks TAS will do something to restore the place to its rightful condition.
Oh that’s such a shame! Sounds like the campsite has become a lot more popular since Nathan and Martene’s visit a year prior. Like you said David, here’s hoping Parks TAS can step in to help clean it up.
