Location: Roko Island, Torres Strait Islands
Roko Island is perhaps Australia’a best kept secret! A small private island in the Torres Strait, the island is home to a family-owned and run pearl farm called Roko Pearls Australia. The Island is accessible by boat transfers from Bamaga, Seisia and Punsand Bay.
Accommodation on the island consists of spacious and comfortable glamping tents, plus fully catered meals served in a Balinese style eating area that offers a beautiful backdrop of the crystal clear water and the floating jetty that twists out across the sea.

We stumbled upon Roko Island via a google search and it just might be Australia’s best kept secret! This pearl would have to be the pinnacle of our trip to the tip of the country (no pun intended).
We stayed in glamping tents that were spacious and comfortable. Our entire stay was catered, and we got to enjoy our meals in the Balinese style eating area that offered a beautiful backdrop of the crystal blend water and the floating jetty that twisted out across the sea. Showers and toilets were made from huge funky stones and concrete (plus they were spotless with great water pressure!) and the camp fires at night were bliss.
We experienced so much whilst staying at Roko Island. We fished off the jetty, fed sharks, and even saw a croc swim by. We went crabbing and had a ride in a trailer behind a quad bike. We saw grave sites that were hundreds of years old. We watched the sunrise over the other side of the island. Zali and Nathan did a fishing charter where they caught a bunch of large mackerels – Zali said it was the best day of their life!
It was our whole family’s favourite part of our trip to the tip, and we will definitely be back there again (and next time we will be staying longer!).
