Punsand Bay Campground Review

Location: Punsand, QLD
Punsand Bay Campground is an eclectic beachfront campground set in the untouched wilderness of northern Queensland, overlooking the turquoise Arafura Sea, Torres Strait Islands and ‘The Tip’ of Australia. As the most northern address in Australia, this campground offers the perfect base for exploring the Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait Islands.
The site offers a huge range of accommodation options from beachfront cabins, to safari tents with ensuite, air-conditioned cabins, and of course both powered and unpowered camp sites. This laid-back and luxurious destination is just 5km west of ‘The Tip’ of Cape York.

The luxury Punsand Bay Campground was a well-welcomed change of pace from the campsites we’d stayed at on our trip up to the tip – it felt like an eclectic fusion of Mexico and tropical Fiji!
The beachfront campground overlooked golden sands, and offered the perfect vantage point for watching the sun rise out of the Coral Sea in the Pacific Ocean, before tucking down over the Arafura Sea in the Indian Ocean at dusk.
We stayed four nights here – we even celebrated Nathan’s 40th and had a blast! – so we could adequately lap up the luxury of the place.
The showers and toilets were clean, a swimming pool, shop, restaurant, licensed bar, EFTPOS, plus the site was dog friendly. We wouldn’t recommend using the washing machines though, as they were full of sand and made our clothes worse.
We were only 10 minutes drive from the tip and there were countless tracks to explore and local beaches to discover. The landscape was breathtaking and the sunsets spectacular!
After a full day of exploring the kids loved coming back to the campsite to cool off in the above ground pool.
