Policeman’s Point Camping Review
Location: Ansons Bay, TAS
Location: Ansons Bay, TAS
Policemans Point camping is a pretty spot on Ansons Road within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area in Tasmania. It is located on an estuary that leads straight out to the beach, and is a 40 minute drive north of St Helens along a mainly dirt road suitable for most cars.
The campsite is free and suitable for fully self-sufficient travellers. There is no power, water, showers or local shops, but there are a few long drop toilets and a beautiful beach and surrounding bushlands to explore.

We loved our stay at Policemans Point! It was located on an estuary that lead out to the beach, and we were fortunate enough to secure a spot where we could walk directly onto the estuary – it was literally 5 metres from our site!
There was heaps for the kids to explore at Policemans Point, from the sprawling rocks on the beach, to the beautiful surrounding bushland. It was a good site for a bit of fishing too.
There were no shops or facilities nearby, so make sure you stock up well before visiting. Campers can normally have a fire at this spot which would have been lovely, but when we visited Parks and Wildlife had imposed a fire ban.
We stayed five nights over December and were planning to stay Christmas, but unfortunately we had to move on a little sooner than we’d have liked due to bad weather. Our area was subject to flooding because of the estuary on one side and water run-off from the hill on the other side. Long story short: the skies opened up and we had to move along.
