Mutee Head Free Campground Review

Mutee Head Campground is an epic site with plenty to offer considering the free price tag. The spacious site was smack bang on the beach front providing a view of the golden sand and beautiful sunsets.
Located on the west coast of the Cape York Peninsula, the Mutee Head Free Campground is just south of Seisia near the mouth of the Jardine River. It is about 20 km west of Bamaga, Queensland and is suitable for fully self-sufficient travellers.

Mutee Head campground was by far our favourite free camp site on our Cape York trip! We were positioned on the beachfront with fires, gorgeous golden sand, a stack of room and epic sunsets… and we didn’t have to pay a cent.
It was a handy spot for accessing Mutee tracks, which were so much fun! We did need the car winching out at one point and used the max tracks in some of the bog holes where we got stuck. There were also council garbage bins, which were pretty convenient too.
We only intended to stay one night here, but loved it so much we decided to stay two. Unfortunately we didn’t see any crocs on our visit, however they do get seen here regularly.
