Moreton Telegraph Station Campground Review

Location: Wenlock, QLD
Moreton Telegraph Station Camping Ground is set on 6 hectares of natural bushland, and offers space, shade, and access to perhaps the best 4WD track Cape York has to offer!
The campground is located on the Wenlock River about 300km south of the tip, and 130km west of Weipa. It is tranquil, green, and very relaxing. There are powered and non-powered sites, as well as safari tents if you’re craving sleep in a real bed. Powered sites are limited (so make sure you book!) and operate from a generator between the hours of 7 am and 8:30pm. Hot showers and toilet facilities are available 24/7.

Moreton Telegraph Station Campground came at just the right time for us. After a few nights of kicking it in basic campsites, we were ready for a powered site, some sprawling green grass, and a chance to wash the red dirt from our clothes.
This campground ticked all those boxes, and there were even hot showers, a general store and paid Wi-Fi available too!
The campground was a popular spot and it wasn’t hard to see why. It was conveniently located near Frenchman’s Track, which is one of the most famous 4WD tracks in Cape York (it was so much fun!). The station had a cool little museum to check out, and there was the chance to go fishing down at the creek – the kids tried their luck, but only snagged a cat fish.
It was a relaxing and pretty spot to stop for a few nights – the owners were super friendly too!
