Foelshe River Free Camp Review

Location: McArthur, NT
Foelshe River Camp is a free camping spot that’s suitable for fully self-sufficient travellers as there are no amenities. It’s a quiet, picturesque campsite that overlooks the crystal clear water of the Foelshe River.
The site is on Wollogorang Road in McArthur, Northern Territory, about 200m west of the turn off to Manangoora Road. Its approximately 70km east of Borroloola (50 min drive).
The roads to the campsite along the Savannah Way are unsealed with very heavy corrugations and small washouts – probably some of the worst roads in NT. This campsite would not be accessible to most travellers during the wet season.

If you are looking for a quiet spot with clean, clear and refreshing water, then this free campsite is for you.
The Foelshe River Free Camp overlooked the Foelshe River and would be big enough to comfortably fit three large caravans. The camp had no facilities so you need to be self-sufficient.
We were fortunate enough to have this campsite to ourselves with only three vehicles passing by during our entire stay. We enjoyed a swim down in the water below and created a dam like structure in the shallow water to ensure we had no unfriendly visitors. The water was clean and clear with a decent current – it was beautifully refreshing after a day travelling.
The area was tidy, quiet and free of rubbish – a very pleasant spot to stay overnight.
