Eddie’s Elim Beach Campground Review
Location: Hope Vale, QLD
Location: Hope Vale, QLD
Eddie’s Elim Beach Campground is the perfect spot for providing prime access to some very picturesque places. It is right on the water’s edge with views to Cape Bedford, and allows easy access to the famous coloured sands of Elim Beach which are an easy 300 metre walk up the beach.
Days can be spent 4WDing along the beach, sliding down the huge sand dunes, fishing, bush walking, and generally enjoying the beautiful natural surrounds.
The campground provides unpowered sites and basic amenities. It’s located approximately 25 km east of Hope Vale via unsealed roads, and takes about an hour to reach from Cooktown.

We spent two nights camping at Eddie’s Elim Beach Campground, and to say the area was beautiful would be a huge understatement!
The coloured sand at this spot was a must see! We drove up the beach at low tide and the kids attempted to slide down the huge sand dunes in cardboard boxes. There was talk that the area could be mined, which would be so devastating.
Our site at the campground was way down the back and it was a long walk to the amenities. There was no power in the amenities at night so be sure to take your night light with you. The mozzies were particularly bad on sundown too – we got nailed on the first night!
We drove up to Cape Bedford one day and saw turtles, sharks and heaps of fish. The view was amazing – we could see for miles! We would’ve stayed for a week if we could.
