Bypass/Telegraph Track Junction Review
Location: Jardine River, QLD
Location: Jardine River, QLD
This free basic campsite is conveniently tucked away near Fruit Bat Falls, on the Old Telegraph Track in Jardine River. It’s a spacious and quiet site very close to the highway, whilst still feeling nicely private.
The positioning is really convenient for exploring the OTT and Jardine River National Park. It is an approximately two hour drive from the tip of Cape York and is suitable only for fully self-sufficient travellers.

The campsite was free, spacious and quiet, despite being very close to the highway. The positioning was really convenient for exploring the OTT and Jardine River National Park, yet we still felt nicely tucked away and private.
This campsite was a great spot to leave our van so we could have some 4WD fun on the Old Telegraph Track. The site became our base for two nights whilst we explored waterfalls and swimming spots within the National Park.
The Fruit Bat Falls, Twin Falls, Elliot Falls and the Saucepan were all close by – and spectacular! The kids’ favourite was the Saucepan as it had deeper water to jump into alongside little holes where we could sit and receive a lovely shoulder massage from the falling water.
It was a great, basic campsite – just remember there are no amenities, so you do need to be fully self-sufficient to stay there. It’s also worth mentioning that it was a smaller location, so larger vehicles may struggle.
