Bethune Park Camping Area is beautiful and free! It’s located at 2069 Ellendale Road in Ouse, Tasmania and is about an hour and 15 minutes north-west of Hobart.
The campground has no power, water or showers, but makes up for this with the gorgeous views. The campsite is suitable for RVs, camper trailers, caravans and tents.

Bethune Park Camping Area was a free camp on a block of land that overlooked the nice and still Meadow Bank Lake. It was a beautiful location where we could watch people fishing, heading out on boats, waterskiing and the like. There was a really cool bridge that went from one side of the lake to the other too.
The camp had a top and bottom section that included around 50 individual campsites. The top part was more exposed to wind but offered views overlooking the lake, which was gorgeous. We opted for a top camp and luckily the wind wasn’t too bad whilst we were there. The sites at the bottom would have been more protected from wind and allowed better access to the water, but without the views.
The site had no power, water or showers. There were men’s and women’s toilets however the women’s were out of order when we visited and the men’s ran out of water. The toilets probably weren’t serviced as they should be, but we understand the campsite was created to support tourism to the local community and area.
Rubbish collection was offered onsite, although unfortunately people dumped their rubbish and it ended up becoming a rubbish collection that made the place feel a little bit dirty around the toilet area.
All in all, it was a cool location for a quick overnight stay. We could probably have stayed a bit longer and used it as a base to checkout the local National Parks, strawberry farms, and the Lawrenny distillery which was just around the corner.
The campground had a maximum 7 day stay.
