Barkers Rocks Camping Review

Barkers Rocks Camping is on the west coast of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, about 12 kilometres north-west of Minalton. The campsite offers unpowered beach-view spots, and more protected (and less populated) sites behind the dunes.
This spot is one of the 19 Bush Campgrounds on the Yorke Peninsula that requires a Bush Camping Permit to access. Permits can be purchased here, and are available as nightly, weekly, monthly, or yearly permits.

Barkers Rocks Camping wasn’t a free campsite, but instead required a Bush Camping Permit that gives you access to 19 different campgrounds on the Yorke Peninsula. We purchased a 28-day permit for $150 (you can see the pricing options here).
When we drove into this camp we had the option of turning right and accessing the sites with an ocean outlook, or going left and camping amongst the sand dunes. The beach sites were very crowded so we decided to camp in the sand dunes, which actually provided more cover from the westerly winds. This camp spot also allowed us to bunker in with some mates of ours, which felt private and quiet.
During the day we drove over to the beach and set ourselves up for the day. The kids swam, we cooked up a BBQ lunch, had a few drinks and watched the sun set. The beach was beautiful with white sand and crystal clear water. Other friends of ours took their boats out and went fishing – they were very lucky with the squid.
The only negative was that the campground was a bit dusty, so if there was any wind you would cop it because it was quite dry out there.
We stayed two nights and loved this place.
