Adels Grove Camping Ground Review
Location: Lawn Hill, QLD
Location: Lawn Hill, QLD
Adels Grove campsite is a 320km drive north from Mount Isa (approx. 4 hrs) and a 200km drive south-west from Burketown (approx. 2.5 hrs). The roads from Burketown along the Savannah Way are unsealed and have rough corrugations, so a semi-off road or off-road setup is advisable.
The campground is conveniently located 50km from the Riversleigh Fossil Fields and just a 10 minute drive from Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park, which offers amazing walks and canoeing in the gorge. There are also a couple of swimming holes and fishing spots along the creek that runs through the back of the camping ground, just be aware of fresh water crocs.
In addition to the lush green campsites, there are also standard rooms, en-suited rooms, and even pre-erected tents available to hire.

Adels Grove campsite was a convenient base as it was only 10 mins drive from Lawn Hill Gorge, Boodjamulla National Park which offered amazing walks and canoeing in the gorge. You could hire canoes from the campground and pick them up directly at the gorge, which was super convenient!
The roads to the national park were pretty rough. If you wanted to see the Boodjamulla National Park but not subject your van to the punishment, there was the option to leave your van in Gregory, Queensland.
There were a couple of swimming holes and fishing spots along the creek that ran through the back of the park. Fresh water crocs might be present but we did not see any.
The park had two distinct parts; a shaded rainforest down the bottom and a cleared section at the top where you can run generators. There were food and drinks available in the bar and kitchen which was a nice treat, and it was a good spot to refuel (fuel available).
The park had recently been sold back to the traditional owners and there were a number of initiatives planned in the next five years – definitely a spot to keep an eye on!
Yes we were there 2 years and stayed on a cabin
Just after the fire wiped out restaurant and bar
We had to take alot more with us. It is expensive but we had so much fun on the waterways.
Sadly we were booked to go back but had to cancel and the new owners won’t give our deposit back..
I’ll be arriving 12th August with 4 others on motorcycles. Will need camping , fuel, beverages and evening meals . As you are most likely aware there will be many other motorcyclists coming for the weekend. Really looking forward to coming and experiencing the wonders of your area
Steve that sounds like a hoot! What a way to see such a beautiful part of the world. I know Nathan and Martene loved their time at Adels Drove Camping Ground… I have no doubt you will too. Be sure to follow the fam on their socials and keep them updated on your adventures. Tess 🙂
